Master of Social Welfare Program Formulates Research and Community Engagement Roadmap 2026–2030

The Master of Social Welfare Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta actively participated in the formulation of the Research and Community Engagement Roadmap for 2026–2030. This activity, initiated by the Faculty of Da’wah and Communication, was held over two days, June 17–18, 2025, at Roihan Hotel, Yogyakarta, and was attended by representatives from all academic programs within the faculty.

The roadmap aims to provide a strategic direction for research and community service over the next five years through an integrated and collaborative approach across departments. The Master of Social Welfare Program identified three major themes for its future research focus: migration, climate change, and social protection and empowerment. These themes were selected in response to pressing and complex social issues that require comprehensive academic attention. In terms of community engagement, the program focuses on developing models for community welfare development. This focus is driven by the fact that many social welfare service institutions in Indonesia, particularly in Yogyakarta, still lack structured and sustainable models for improving community welfare outcomes.

Dean of the Faculty of Da’wah and Communication, Prof. Arif Maftuhin, stated in his remarks that the roadmap serves as a strategic effort to map out cross-disciplinary research and community service. “This roadmap will guide us to ensure that research and community engagement initiatives across departments are connected and mutually reinforcing,” he explained. Likewise, the head of the organizing committee, Prof. Pajar Hatma Indra Jaya, emphasized that the purpose of this roadmap is to identify common threads among the various research and service activities conducted by each academic program. “With this initiative, the faculty will have a unified theme that defines its scientific identity and tangible contribution to society,” he noted.

Through this initiative, the Master of Social Welfare Program reaffirms its commitment to advancing research and community service that are rooted in the real needs of society, while also strengthening academic synergy within the faculty. The roadmap is expected to become a strong foundation for impactful, transformative, and sustainable social welfare contributions in the years to come.
