"Students and Lecturers of the Master's Program in Social Welfare Enrich the Academic Forum at the International Da'wah Conference (IDACON)"
The Master's Program in Social Welfare (MKS), Faculty of Da'wah and Communication, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, once again demonstrated its academic role in an international forum. At the 9th International Da'wah Conference (IDACON), held on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at the Gran Rohan Hotel Yogyakarta, the MKS Program, together with the IKS Program, co-organized a thematic panel themed “Social Work in Times of Disruption: addressing inequality, displacement, and the climate crisis through faith-based social work and community engagement.” Lecturers and students of the Master's Program in Social Welfare (MKS) actively participated in this panel session. The involvement of MKS students and lecturers as presenters reflects an active contribution to international scientific forums, while also demonstrating a continuously developing academic capacity.
This panel presented diverse thoughts from academics across various universities, highlighting contemporary issues ranging from gender inequality, migration, and disability to the climate crisis, utilizing faith-based approaches and community engagement. Acting as the Reviewer was Muhammad Izzul Haq, S.Sos., M.Sc., Ph.D., Head of the Undergraduate IKS Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga, while the Moderator was Dr. Arin Mamlakah Kalamika, M.A.
The contribution of MKS lecturers was demonstrated through a presentation by Dr. Asep Jahidin, S.Ag., M.Si., who highlighted the Light of the Prophet Intervention Model. Using a cosmological-spiritual approach (Nur Muhammad), this research offers an alternative perspective in understanding disability, while emphasizing the importance of strengthening social inclusion based on faith values. Revika Arnita Sari and Haddat Alwi presented the results of a collaborative research project between lecturers and students. This research examined returned migrant workers in Indonesia, highlighting vulnerabilities and reintegration challenges. Utilizing a feminist perspective, this study emphasized the importance of migrant organizational solidarity in overcoming stigma and advocating for social justice.
Furthermore, various ideas from other academics also enriched the discussion. Research by Andayani, S.IP., MSW, and her team from the IKS Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga highlighted the invisible mental burden on housewives through a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach. From the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Gorontalo Province, Riska Duduti and her team presented an innovation in Braille Qur'an learning through the Al-Baghdadiyah method. Meanwhile, Latiful Khuluk and his team raised the issue of the welfare of the Samin indigenous community, and Dr. Siti Napsiyah highlighted the digital divide among the elderly. The discussion in this panel not only enriched academic insights but also prompted reflection on how research results can be transformed into public policy. Through the active involvement of students and lecturers in this forum, the MKS Program of UIN Sunan Kalijaga reaffirmed its commitment to developing social work science that is responsive to global dynamics, as well as strengthening its academic role at the international level.
