Second MKS PAR FGD in 2026 Discusses Social Security for Social Workers in Yogyakarta
The Master’s Program in Social Welfare (MKS), Faculty of Da’wah and Communication, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) as part of a Participatory Action Research (PAR) study on the fulfillment of social security for social workers. The activity was held on Friday, September 18, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Western Indonesia Time (WIB) at Soetan Cafe, Yogyakarta. The FGD involved nine social workers based in the Special Region of Yogyakarta who are members of the Indonesian Association of Professional Social Workers (IPSPI).
The FGD served as a participatory forum to explore social workers’ experiences, conditions, and perspectives regarding the fulfillment of social security within social work practice. The PAR approach was employed to position social workers not merely as sources of research information, but also as active participants in identifying issues and interpreting the conditions they experience. The FGD aimed to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of the forms of social security received by social workers, their access to social protection, and the various challenges they face in accessing such protection. Through collective discussion, the research also seeks to identify the needs and potential measures to strengthen social security for social workers based on the experiences and perspectives of the participants.
This PAR study is a collaboration between MKS lecturers and students. The lecturer team consists of Dr. Asep Jahidin and Dr. Muh. Ulil Abshar, while the student team consists of Ulil Albab, Mafaza Azzahra, and Dirga Wahyuri. This collaboration is part of an effort to develop learning and research processes that directly involve students in community- and profession-based research activities. The findings of the PAR study will subsequently be developed into a scholarly article for publication. In this way, the research is expected not only to provide a mapping of the current conditions of social security fulfillment among social workers, but also to contribute academically to the development of social welfare studies and serve as a basis for reflection on strengthening the protection and well-being of social workers.
