MKS Participates in IDACON 2026, Presenting Two Collaborative Research Studies by Students and Lecturers

The Master’s Program in Social Welfare (MKS), Faculty of Da’wah and Communication, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, participated in the 10th International Da'wah Conference (IDACON) 2026, held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026. The conference took place from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. WIB at Mustika Yogyakarta Resort & Spa. IDACON 2026 carried the theme “Da'wah, Humanity, and Global Coexistence: Repositioning Religion in a Fragmented World,” bringing together academics, researchers, and practitioners to discuss issues of da'wah, humanity, and global coexistence in an increasingly fragmented world. MKS’s participation in IDACON 2026 was part of its efforts to expand academic opportunities for the development of social welfare studies through an international scholarly forum. At the conference, two collaborative research studies involving MKS students and lecturers were presented. The studies reflect MKS’s engagement with various social issues emerging in communities while strengthening the connection between research, learning, and the development of social welfare scholarship.

The first study, entitled “Navigating the Gaps: How Parents of Children with Cerebral Palsy Navigate Fragmented Services in Yogyakarta, Indonesia,” explored the experiences of parents of children with cerebral palsy in accessing and navigating various available services. The study was presented by Dirga Wahyuri, Mafaza Az Zahra, and Ulil Albab. The research highlights family experiences and challenges in accessing services as important aspects in developing social welfare practices that are responsive to the needs of groups experiencing vulnerability.

The second study, entitled “Working for Well-Being, Who Protects Social Workers? A Participatory Action Research on Access to Rights and Social Protection,” employed a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach to examine social workers’ access to rights and social protection in carrying out their profession. The study was presented by Ismi Hayum Bandera and Muhammad Zulkarnain MJ. The participatory approach also reflects MKS’s efforts to develop research that not only examines social welfare issues but also involves the groups concerned in the research process.

MKS’s participation in IDACON 2026 also aimed to provide students with valuable experience in an international academic setting. Their involvement as presenters provided opportunities to practice presenting research findings, engage in academic discussions with researchers from diverse backgrounds, and introduce MKS research to an international scholarly audience. Through this participation, MKS continues to encourage students to strengthen their research skills, academic communication, and scholarly networks as an integral part of postgraduate learning.
